Tobacco's TRICKS and Wisconsin Kids

Have you heard about Snus, Strips, and Sticks? Well, they're just some of Big Tobacco's new tricks - marketed to our youth.

Today's tobacco industry is evolving for the 21st century, innovating products and finding new ways to hook nonsmokers while keeping existing customers addicted. The products may be changing but their goal remains the same -- to profit from a deadly addiction.

This Halloween, take some time to educate your friends and family about the dangers of these new products. Take our quiz to see if you can tell which products are tobacco and which are candy:

As you know, the American Heart Association continues to advocate to ensure all tobacco is treated the same when it comes to how they are priced and sold in Wisconsin. And we’ve made some progress this fall! Representative Bies authored a bill that passed the Assembly prohibiting the purchase of tobacco products on behalf of a minor (AB 93) and at the end of September the Department of Revenue issued a letter to end illegal manufacturing of cigarettes in “roll your own” (RYO) businesses.

But there is still a lot more to do to ensure these candy flavored products stay out of the reach of kids. Which is why we need your help to educate parents this Halloween and recruit others to join the fight against big tobacco!

These tricks are intended for our Wisconsin kids, so be sure to spread the word to keep them out of our children’s hands this Halloween and year round! Visit our blog at www.heartofwisconsin.blogspot.com for more information.
